I’m piggybacking off of last week’s episode where I hope you felt inspired to take fast action and stop second guessing yourself. Today I’m sharing more about how I avoid the pitfall of analyzing and criticizing myself and taking the feedback personally. You need to create positive habits around your content creation so you avoid the pitfalls of stalling when things don’t go the way you’d planned.
Tune in and let me know what you do to avoid obsessing over the analytics!

[showhide type=”post” more_text=”Show more…” less_text=”Show less…”] hey hey hey welcome back to the marvelous podcast it’s Kirsten your host with the most and I’m so excited to talk to you today about another concept that you know plays off of a little bit of last week’s episode where we talk about taking action in your business in your life and stop sitting in your thoughts and actually get stuff done because that’s where the progress and the the growth happens and that’s where all the fun really is right and today I want to talk to you a little bit more about I think some of the habits and tendencies that we have after we start taking action the pits that we can fall in and the decisions that we may not be aware of that we are making you know the things that we’re doing that we need a little bit of awareness and consciousness about and so today we’re going to really break that down so this is based on my own personal experience but I know that this resonates with a lot of people I have conversations with people who are really trying to work through these same uh I don’t want to say they’re not inhibitions they’re just they’re things that hold us back because they’re addictions and they’re things that we uh have really based our self-worth on but they’re not they’re they don’t bring our self-worth they don’t determine our self-worth and yet we get really really wrapped up in them I was talking to somebody the other day who said yeah I created a totally separate social media account to just follow things that I’m interested in and I don’t post there because I got so sick of worrying about after I posted who liked it and who commented on my stuff now guys we’ve had many a discussion about social media and how it can play a major major role in messing up our minds and how we base way too much worth and value on those things but it bears repeating it’s important to talk about again but from the approach of a business owner a content creator how do we live in this world where we rely on social media and we rely on creating and putting things out and we want to make an impact but how do we detach from the outcome why are we so attached to the outcome and what are some little changes that we can make in our in our daily behavior and our habits that can allow us to just put that out there and be okay with whatever happens now so this kind of again goes off to back to last week where I talk about how uh back in the day I had this beautiful ignorance is bliss life and I didn’t know or care and here’s the thing with a podcast here’s what I love I don’t know who you guys are like obviously some of you message me I know who’s listening to a degree but I don’t there is no follower count with podcasts there is no way to know like who exactly is listening from the analytics that we have it’s very generalized you can obviously see how many downloads you get on an episode but you don’t see anything beyond that and so I feel like maybe that’s why for the first couple of years of having an online business I didn’t worry about the numbers I was not using social media to grow my business I didn’t understand how it worked I didn’t care I didn’t have expectations about it it just was there and you know this is what people said like share it here and do this and so I did the things but I had no strategy no desire to grow and no interest in having a following now that changed over time I started to believe the paradigm of well you can’t really make the impact you want until you’re reaching lots and lots of people so you need to grow your audience if you don’t grow your audience and you’re not helping anyone and so I went into that tirade of just like okay I have to grow I have to grow I have to grow so everything I did became about doing the right thing and posting the right thing and sharing the right thing to get the engagement to get the followers to go up and I think if you’re listening you know that’s no way to live that it’s really depressing and you guys I’ve seen behind the curtain with a lot of people who’s who whose reality is literally based on social media they base your value on how many followers you have they base other people’s value on how many followers they have they track they notice their world is like well if you’re not if you’re not on instagram are you even alive if you’re not posting about this and this and this on instagram are you even actually doing anything and they failed to comprehend that there’s an actual world that exists outside of this tiny little bubble on the internet and so I kind of went deep down into the pit of like oh it’s not making a difference it doesn’t matter I’m not doing enough and then after a really long time of being in that rut I finally just stopped there was actually a week where I like deactivated instagram all together because I was just like ugh I’m done I don’t care I just don’t care I’m done and it felt really really good but I instantly started getting messages from people like um am I blocked where did you go I missed your daily messages I missed your instagram tvs this was happening like the very beginning of 2020 pre-covered pre-drama and I had set a goal to create like a daily igtv every day and after I kind of drove myself crazy because I was like oh man these aren’t growing this isn’t gaining traction guys I probably did like five but that’s I’m an all or nothing person I’ve decided I’ve discovered and I’m not going to identify as that anymore because there is so much power in like holding an identity for yourself and and then continuing to identify with that identity and I’m not gonna do that but previously I have been an all-or-nothing person and I was like if this isn’t gonna be all my hopes and dreams fast then I’m not gonna do it it’s not worth my time but after a little you know considerable amount of time past with being completely nonchalant about social media like my my family even was like what are you even doing like you’re never on instagram I forget you have instagram I forget you have social media and I started using facebook more and I was it’s ironic because I think a lot of people hate facebook when you know the election’s been going on and all the kova stuff but I really enjoyed it because it’s been not about the visual that I needed to share not about the expectation it’s just been a place to share to be authentic and genuine and not put any expectations on anything I don’t care how many likes or comments I get on facebook I’m literally just trying to have conversation but with instagram it was so different there was always an expectation so some of the habits that we have after we post like we get in a really good habit and we’ve gotten ourselves into this mode we’re like I’m going to create content I’m going to do it I’m going to conquer it and then we start to notice the numbers we pay attention to the analytics and if the analytics are not what we want to see if we see that our growth is at a standstill or it’s going backwards we automatically assume that that content was a failure that we are a failure and that we might as well not even try but I had this aha moment as I started posting again on insta stories because I took a really long break where it was like here and there but never really anything consistent I’m still working back into it and trying to find that balance for my life where I’m not on there all the time and I’m not consuming a ton I’m just on there as much as I need to be and I noticed like I start you know I looked at one time at who had viewed one of my stories because I had asked a poll i’d done a poll on something and so I was looking at the poll answers and then I scrolled through and I was like oh my gosh that person still follows me that person like this person I’ve known for like eight years and they still care and they still show up and they are interested and they know what’s going on in my life and I had so much love for every person that I saw on that list and there’s a ton of people that I don’t know which look can we just stop for a minute and be like wow there are people who don’t know you don’t spend time with your day to day and they still care to look and be inspired by you so even if they’re not taking the time to send you a dm and be like thanks so much for posting today you really changed my life what if you did what if you changed somebody’s life by showing up that day what if just because you don’t have a visual analytic and you don’t have the likes and comments that somebody with way more followers has what if you’re still making an impact the truth is you are you’re making an impact every single time you show up if you have ever gotten the message or the feedback of like wow I really needed that today that was just for me then you are doing exactly what you need to be doing when it comes to creating your content but we get so stuck in the game right we’re we’re running businesses we need to know our numbers we need to pay attention we need to create more of what’s working and less of what’s not but here’s where we kill the joy of creating here’s where we get too wrapped up in the mental processes and we get out of creativity and we kill all the fun and then slowly what that does is that deteriorates our desire to create and we start getting so focused on the outcome that we stop enjoying the process so just fyI today I recorded an episode of the podcast and then I was like you know what I’m not doing this I’m not going to do this thing where I say I’m going to have new episodes coming and I’m you know trying to commit more and then I’m not going to do it because I don’t know what next week is going to be like and I don’t know what life is going to look like but I know that this is important to me to stay in integrity with creating so I’ve been batching episodes so I’ve actually recorded this week’s last weeks and the week before all today and before before this I would focus on well I kind of need to see like are people gonna really want that are people gonna need that and and then I get stressed out about like I’ve done the podcast what content do I need to do to support that you know I know how it works I’ve I’ve learned I know the strategy of milking one piece of content and making multiple pieces of it but I get so worried about like what if people don’t want that or what if I don’t belong on that platform or what if this is the wrong way to do it that I just stall and then I get into that whole like analysis paralysis that I talked about last week actually I talked about it today but for you it was last week right so how do we move forward how do we get out of this the number one tip I have is to put screen time limits on your phone if you’re gonna be posting regularly you have to be okay with not getting any response like if you lower your expectation and I’m gonna do a whole episode on expectations because I think that’s where a lot of our anger angst and fear and stuff comes from that leads to anything other than happiness and joy and fulfillment in what we do but if you can lower that expectation or remove it entirely by not even allowing yourself to go to the platform and I’m not saying never respond if you get comments and people want to talk like go ahead but if you set that limit for yourself and you say I’m giving myself the 10 minutes after I post to engage with people and after that it’s not going to be till tomorrow the world will not end and you need to have a commitment to yourself before you even open that platform before you even open the app to tell yourself it doesn’t matter if I got 5 likes or if I got 500 because I still reached someone and so I’m not even going to go into the algorithm and how do we conquer it and how do we overcome because it doesn’t matter the right people who need to see it will see it I had the best advice from a friend of mine who I have reached out to multiple times and she’s really really helped me in this process of being in my head she’s one of those that’s like how do you come up with this stuff but at the same time she knows that a lot of things stay stuck on the shelf and she said something to me that I had heard before but I needed to hear it again and she said Kirsten why are you worrying so much about the how just trust that the people who need to see this thing are going to find it and I had been in such an obsessive mode with like oh but if it’s not worded this way and if it’s not presented this way and no no I’m going to lose people and after she said that I was like oh I gotta let go I am really trying hard to control the outcome here and if I do that then I’m not going to enjoy the process and I’m not going to create for them I’m going to be creating for me and it’s not going to do what it needs to do you know there’s nerves that come into this there’s this literal like physical reaction we have to opening up like oh what if people what if people don’t like me what if people didn’t respond what if there’s nothing at all but I remember when I when we did our glow event and I maybe said this on the pod podcast before I rachel hollis was our keynote speaker and we were talking before the event started and I was a little jittery I was nervous and she was like I said do you do you still get nervous and she’s like no not anymore and she gave me the best advice she said when you get nervous it’s about you you are worrying about you you’re worrying about how it’s going to be received you’re worried about judgment and all that stuff but if you are worried about them the nerves go away because you realize you’re just here to be like you’re here to be the message bringer and so that’s what I would say to you is like you’re just there to be a channel of truth you’re there to open your mouth share light share you know goodness share help if you know a way to shortcut somebody’s problem open your mouth and share it tell them show up do the thing create the content don’t worry about it being perfect just show up and then after that don’t second guess yourself do not judge do not over analyze do not be overly critical you know a lot of I talk about this in the uh training that I have the social sales formula big brands big companies who run facebook ads instagram ads who are creating content they don’t sit there and have a whole meeting about why post number 426 didn’t convert they just say it didn’t work moving on try something else I’m going to do this again I’m going to do this again I’m going to do this again if you think you’re the first one to have a post or an ad or a you know blog fall short think again that is part of the game it’s part of the process but it in no way affects your personal value your personal worth and if you are attaching those things too closely together then you are inhibiting your ability to keep showing up and creating some of your best stuff and you’ll never know it’s your best stuff until it just happens if you get stuck in planning and trying to have it perfect beforehand you will never discover what it is that people need to hear from you you just have to open your mouth and be willing to share and you’ll get there it’s a journey it’s a process but you need to detach from the outcome now on the next episode I’m going to talk to you guys about the ego I’m going to talk about how good and bad feedback are not good for you and how we cannot get ourselves too focused on the and this is this goes beyond judgment this is just an awareness for you to understand that you cannot be driven by the ego you can’t be driven by what people say and the outcome and the feedback that you receive there’s a difference between getting healthy feedback and there’s a difference between that and between allowing your soul to be crushed or allowing your ego to be inflated by the comments of others and we’re going to talk about that on the next episode in the meantime thank you so much for tuning in today I love you and I’m giving you the permission to share and show up and be yourself and do what needs to be done but step away and detach yourself from the outcome don’t look at your phone don’t look at the analytics because it might stop you from creating maybe your best piece of content ever all
