In today’s episode, Mel Haskins and I are sharing about one of the people who meant a lot to us in her short life on earth. Whippycake has been on the podcast a couple of times, and now she’s here again, but in a different spirit. Mel and I wanted to celebrate her life and share some of our precious memories with you, since she had such a lasting impact on our lives. I miss her SO much and am so grateful for the life she led to be an anchor to me and the best giggle companion EVER! We lost Whippy to cancer in March 2020 and soon after the COVID-19 crisis began, so we have not been able to process or mourn her loss appropriately. Tune in and celebrate her life alongside us.
The Beginning of Something Beautiful
Mel and I each share how our friendships started with Whip and the things we noticed about her character from the very beginning. Many times you encounter “influencers” and wonder what they are like in real life. We were both pleasantly surprised to discover that Whip was even more wonderful and amazing in real life than her online persona. And what you see WAS what you got, and so much more. Whip wanted people to succeed and for both Mel and I, Whip played a big role in us reaching our business goals. She skyrocketed Mel’s mircroblading business and she helped Ben and I to sell hundreds of Big Mouth Games (if you know, you know!)
“There were times we had almost nothing in the bank and because of her connection and her willingness to speak on our behalf, like it led to explosive things in our business. So she was just absolutely selfless with that. She was one of the most selfless people I know when it comes to sharing and connecting people.”- Kirsten
The Cockroach Experience
We share the icky details of one of our most hilarious and fun experiences, and one of the only ones we had as a trio. We spent time together in Atlanta Georgia for Pinner’s Conference and we had an incredibly memorable experience, battling a roach the size of Texas in our hotel room! You can watch the entire experience unfold HERE, and yes I’ve watched it more times than I can count. I had no idea then how valuable that experience would someday be, but it’s one of the last times I remember Whip being completely careless, without the burden of cancer weighing on her mind and heart. We laughed our heads off!
Lessons learned from Whippy
I truly believe people who have shorter lives pack a lot of living into the years they are here. They impact a lot of people, and Whippy did so in all the right ways. She was such a beacon of light anywhere she was. I learned a LOT from our short time together, as did Mel.
From Mel:
“I’m worthy of it because I deserve it. And that’s not just in relationship that’s in, in business and you know, and whatever. Don’t like short change myself. She told me a lot of times, there’s nothing holding you back but yourself. And sometimes that’s hard to hear, but it was true. And I find myself repeating that advice a lot of times, ‘I’m getting in my own way, but I think the biggest thing is just that I’m deserving. That’s what she helped me see. That’s what she constantly was trying to tell me in so many different ways is that I’m worthy of good things.”
From me:
Tt was this very simple. Be your authentic self, be crazy. Be powerful. Own everything about yourself, because why wouldn’t you? You are deserving of your power. You have so much to give this world. Why would you second guess yourself? I was not her nature to sit there and second guess her actions or her words, she just didn’t waste a whole lot of time in that space.”
There’s SO much more to be gleaned, Whippy lived a beautiful life and we honor her today and everyday for the impact she made in our lives! Love you so much Whip!
